Atlas Gunworks has been emphasizing the significance of magazine maintenance and tuning for years, especially when it comes to maintaining optimal firearm functionality. The dimensions above will enable you to make sure your magazine is within spec and return to its reliable and efficient form if it is out of tune. Ensuring that your 2011 magazines are in top condition is a critical aspect of firearm ownership and can significantly impact your shooting experience.
Here is why each measurement is important:
Feed lips
Having the correct dimensions allows the bullet to pass through the top of the magazine into the chamber efficiently.
With the front feeding lip being wider than the rear, it encourages the bullet forward for efficient feeding.
If the front feeding lips are too wide, the mag loses control of the round allowing the round to get in front of the extractor. It can make live rounds eject out of the gun.
If the rear feeding lips are too wide, it can cause nose dives into the ramp.
If the feeding lips are too narrow, it can cause nose dives or straight into the ramp feeding.
Follower transition point (base of feeding lips) and 1†down
This dimension is important to ensure proper ammo stacking from the top of the magazine tube as the ammo feeds into the feeding lips.
This part of the magazine being in spec also gives proper clearance for proper spring and follower travel as the magazine is emptied.
Having this dialed in mitigates feeding issues.
Along with tuning to make sure the magazine tube is in spec, it is also important to check the spring and follower and clean the magazine regularly.
