Race Ready and Duty Ready STI Mags
[00:00:00.01]
- Hey everybody,
[00:00:01.02]
Adam from Atlas Gunworks
talking about mags today.
[00:00:04.07]
(gunfire rounds)
[00:00:12.04]
So, Atlas tuned mags,
[00:00:15.04]
I've got a couple different sizes here,
[00:00:17.05]
and a couple of different varieties,
[00:00:19.01]
and people often ask
what the difference is.
[00:00:20.09]
So, we make a mag called a Race Ready.
[00:00:24.04]
So, we take an STI tube,
modify the tube as necessary,
[00:00:28.09]
there's a couple of different things.
[00:00:30.02]
We have lots of videos
on how that happens.
[00:00:32.09]
Put a better base pad on
with a toolless base pad,
[00:00:36.02]
and put a different
spring and follower system
[00:00:39.02]
in there with a flat follower,
[00:00:41.00]
so there's no lock back.
[00:00:42.03]
They get maximum capacity
and maximum reliability,
[00:00:45.05]
but no lock back.
[00:00:46.08]
So that's an Atlas Race Ready mag.
[00:00:48.05]
You can get them in nine
millimeter, 170, 140.
[00:00:52.09]
Those are the only two sizes in nine,
[00:00:54.06]
and then we also make it in 40 cal.
[00:00:57.02]
I don't have one here, but a 40 cal, 140.
[00:00:59.07]
That's the only way that those come,
[00:01:01.01]
but basically for USPSA
Three Gun Steel Challenge,
[00:01:04.09]
other sporting events where
you want a high capacity mag
[00:01:07.09]
with no lock back feature.
[00:01:12.04]
Another version, so that
was actually these two,
[00:01:15.09]
another version is our Duty Ready mag.
[00:01:17.08]
So same thing, we tuned the body.
[00:01:20.05]
We jam on a better base pad.
[00:01:24.01]
You get a four millimeter base
pad across most of the mags,
[00:01:27.02]
except the 126's get a three millimeter
[00:01:29.04]
so that they fit in the
new Atlas Duty mag well.
[00:01:34.01]
In this case, we tune the mag bodies.
[00:01:36.03]
We, again, new base pad,
[00:01:38.04]
we put in a different spring.
[00:01:39.09]
Atlas, we have our own springs made,
[00:01:42.00]
and then we keep the STI followers
[00:01:43.09]
for lock back and they're
tuned for lock back.
[00:01:47.09]
And there's a little bit of
tube tuning for lock back,
[00:01:50.01]
and there's a little bit
of tube tuning for feeding,
[00:01:51.09]
and sometimes some tube tuning
[00:01:53.08]
for getting the mags in the grips.
[00:01:56.02]
But that's a Duty Ready mag.
[00:01:58.08]
So those are the two kinds of mag sets.
[00:02:01.02]
You have Race Ready and Duty Ready.
[00:02:03.05]
On the mags that hold,
or the Race Ready mags,
[00:02:07.07]
that hold an extra little bit of capacity,
[00:02:10.03]
not all of them, the 126, we don't do it,
[00:02:12.04]
but on the other ones,
[00:02:13.03]
we often drill a hole to
witness a few more rounds.
[00:02:16.09]
So I think this one's 29 and 23,
[00:02:20.03]
and these are almost all, at this point,
[00:02:22.06]
the black, STI switched
to the black tubes.
[00:02:26.01]
These are the black Teflon tubes.
[00:02:28.04]
So those are our Race Ready mags,
[00:02:30.09]
and we're getting a better flow of those
[00:02:32.06]
so they should almost always be in stock.
[00:02:34.06]
It's a great mag.
[00:02:36.03]
They require sometimes a
little bit of retuning once
[00:02:39.05]
or twice a year, but
that's pretty typical.
[00:02:42.09]
I've run these for years, they work great.
[00:02:44.08]
So, they need to be tuned,
but once they're tuned,
[00:02:47.00]
it's a really great product.
[00:02:48.05]
Hope to see you guys on the range soon.
