Trigger Sizing: Which Shoe Fits Your 1911 Double Stack?

Why trigger length is important

Trigger length is important as it can influence shooting accuracy, control, and comfort. This is especially true with handguns, which lack stability. When your arms are reaching out and unsupported, it is easier for trigger weight and length to influence your shot.

For optimal length for comfort and accuracy, you want your finger to be at 90 degrees and ideally parallel with your body as it rests on the trigger. With this finger position on the trigger, you can pull the trigger straight back, which will have the lowest impact on accuracy.

If your finger is extended away from you because the trigger is too long or too short in can push the gun away from or pull it towards your dominant shooting hand throwing the shot.

Trigger length by hand size

Extra-small to small hands are compatible with the flat extra short and curved short triggers. Medium to large hands are compatible with flat short and curved medium triggers. Large hands are compatible with flat medium and up.

You can make micro-adjustments to fine-tune our triggers, but the sizing needs to be correct, as the adjustment is not enough to compensate for the wrong-size trigger.

Here are our 1911 triggers listed from shortest to longest:

  • Flat Extra Short Trigger

  • Curved Short Trigger

  • Flat Short Trigger

  • Curved Medium Trigger

  • Flat Medium Trigger

  • Curved Long Trigger

  • Flat Long Trigger

Curved vs Flat 1911 Triggers

Curved and flat triggers have benefits and drawbacks, and it comes down to personal preference. Most 2011 and 1911 handguns come standard with a curved trigger, and many are accustomed to using it. They contour to your finger, which some believe encourages a more consistent pull.

Flat 1911 triggers are the most popular aftermarket option right now. They have more surface area to engage and typically provide a more linear and straight-back trigger pull. For a more comprehensive write-up, read our blog about Curved vs. Flat Triggers!

Conclusion

Having the optimal trigger length for your pistol is an important contribution to performance and overall shooting experience. If you are looking to upgrade your 2011 or 1911 trigger, picking the correct length will make all the difference whether you are a casual or competition shooter.
